| About SEE Boosters

The Suquamish Environmental Education (SEE) Boosters are a group of educators, parents and supporting local businesses who believe that our students need experiential learning of the environment to become good citizens. The SEE Boosters raise money each year to supplement the funding of important programs like the resident learning at Islandwood, support of the Basket Marsh and Pond Kids, etc.
Our goal is to make nature an integral part of our students’ daily education. The SEE Boosters are a registered 501(c)(3), and your donations are tax deductible.
EDUCATIONAL GOALS
- Provide hands-on learning environment, engage in real world investigations and problem solving related to our environment and our community.
- Create and maintain a year round eco-classroom/wetland to support existing science and environmental studies for all elementary grades.
- Provide opportunities for our students to:
- Bond to the school and caring adults.
- Develop knowledge of and comfort with a multi-cultural environment.
- Become actively engaged in learning.
All of the classes in the school are actively journaling about what they have learned and participate in at least one pond project each year. Examples of projects include interpretive ID tags for plants, compost piles, and weeding. Also, some classes are building bird feeders to hang near the pond. One of the jobs of the pond kids is to report to their home class weekly and to their "buddy class" (the smaller kids) about what's new and what's happening at the pond.
ENVIRONMENTAL GOALS
Our environmental accomplishments:
- Restored a habitat for pond living animals such as ducks, frogs, salamanders, dragonflies, and other wildlife.
- Things we did to save animals and plant life:
- Planted lots and lots of native plants and trees.
- Planted grasses and reeds used for weaving.
- Built a Martin house and duck house.
- Provided a home for Mason Bees.
- Bioremediated oily parking lot runoff.
- We are hoping to find more ways to make our pond a better place for humans and wild life.
